Abundant Job Opportunities are a major factor in determining where you want to live. Wake County made the list of the top 25 based on job growth experienced over the last decade.


The job growth in Wake County from 2000-2010 increased 35.9 – apparently quite the job machine! The local economic development council reports almost a thousand new positions since March.

The hub of it all is Research Triangle Park, with more than 170 firms that employ about 48,000 workers there. Its impressive tenant list includes: IBM, GlaxoSmithKline, Cisco Systems and DuPont to name some of the larger companies.

Wake County attracts businesses and will do what is necessary to keep them. When Red Hat alluded that it was considering moving its headquarters out of Raleigh, the state gave them $18 million in grants. The Linux software developer plans to stay as well and will create 540 jobs over the next decade.
