NEW HILL, NORTH CAROLINA

New Hill is a small unicorporated town in southwest Wake County.  New Hill is located at the intersection of Old US 1 and New Hill Holleman / Olive Chapel Road.  The town is located along what used to be the New Hope Valley Railway that ran between Durham and Bonsal.  Close by you will find access to the American Tobacco Trail and Harris Lake recreation area.  The current population of this little town is approximately 1700.

New Hill is known for being the home of the New Hope Valley Railway and the North Carolina Railway museum.  The museum is considered a living museum consisting of historic railroad equipment.  The New Hope Valley train runs between Bonsal and New Hill.  The ride takes approximately one hour.  The train has scheduled operating days from May until December.  Train tickets are currently $9 for adults and $6 for children between the ages 2 and 12.  You can also charter group train rides, schedule operate-a-loco, or have a birthday party in a historic caboose.  Durning the months of October and December there are special train events.  The Halloween Train and the Santa Train is fun for the whole family!
